B†B BEHAVIOR POLICY
BTB’s primary goal is to provide a positive, productive, academically driven, and God-centered learning environment for all students.
It is critical for students to be on their best behavior at B†B. Any behavior (distracting other students, talking out of turn, demonstrating disrespect toward teacher or classmates, etc.) that interferes with a teacher’s job of teaching or a student’s opportunity for learning is considered a problem. Parents should communicate with teachers regularly and are encouraged to sit in on classes occasionally to observe teacher-child interaction.
It is strongly recommended that the teacher first discuss a student’s misbehavior with the parent. If verbal warning(s) and discussion with the parent do not take care of the misbehavior, the teacher has the authority to send the student out of the class and to the front desk at which point the parent will be notified immediately. It is the parent’s duty to make sure the misbehavior does not continue.
At all times while on church premises, everyone should walk, use appropriate voice levels, and respect church property. Students should remain at all times in B†B designated areas. All B†B parents and teachers are given express authority to correct and usher any misbehaving student to the front desk where the parent will be made aware of her student’s infraction.
Parents, please take note. As outlined in our missions statement, BTB sets out to be primarily an academic enrichment program. We want to attract students who desire to be sharpened academically by attending classes with other responsible, hard-working, and diligent students. Our program's aim is to engage families who truly desire to home educate with excellence and who deeply desire to work with other families who share this same mindset.
As a general practice, this means students should be characterized by consistently attending their classes with their homework and assignments completed on time as outlined in the syllabus guidelines. Some classes (like science and literature) are more rigorous than others. Students should be prepared weekly for in-class discussions, experiment stations, and with all written homework to be turned in to teacher, etc. It should go without saying that students should not be enrolled in classes unless they are willing to do the work involved.
Absolutely no weapons, including pocket knives, are allowed on church property for any reason before, during, and/or after B†B and B†B related events. Concealed weapons of any type (including pocket knives) are strictly forbidden.
If any student, parent, teacher, or adult sees or hears about a student with any type of weapon, including pocket knives, he/she is to report this immediately to the student's parent, teacher, or other adult. Then the incident must immediately be reported to B†B Directors for further investigation, parental involvement, and the issuing of consequential disciplinary measures.
In the event a weapon is determined to have been exposed, the parent will be notified and the student will be subject to immediate program suspension and/or expulsion at the discretion of the B†B Directors. As a precaution for all involved, the police force may be summoned as well.
This is a zero-tolerance policy. No warnings will be issued.
Any type of verbal or nonverbal threat, even in a supposed joking fashion, will also be subject to program suspension and/or expulsion. Any incidents of this type should immediately be brought to adult and B†B Directors’ attention for further action. As Christians, we desire that the words of our mouths be uplifting and wholesome, and we aim to treat one another as we would like to be treated. No foul language, off-colored joking, cursing, or bullying permitted.
PROBATION AND DISCIPLINARY MEASURES
Although B†B Leadership strongly prefers teachers to communicate directly with the parent(s) of any student who is not in compliance with our behavior policy, sometimes this is not possible. When Leadership is made aware of a concern(s) regarding a particular student (whether by peers, another parent, or teachers), parental involvement will be sought and possible disciplinary actions may need to take place. B†B Leadership will aim to respond to these concerns with prayer and in a loving and gracious manner.
Some students may be placed on a probationary period during which time their behavior will be more closely monitored. The probation period may include the following:
*Please note from our Interest Survey:
In the event your student has experienced behavioral or physical problems, please be advised that BTB is not equipped to deal with certain physical, psychological, and behavioral issues of our students beyond an otherwise normal range of conditions. If there is concern, please answer the following questions (otherwise enter N/A): 1. Are you able to provide documentation from a medical professional that highly recommends that your child join our program and that verifies that your child would not be a distraction or hindrance to our current participants? 2. Are you also able to provide a professional medical statement that verifies that your child will be physically safe (in regard to any physical condition such as seizures) while participating in our program? 3. Are you prepared to accompany your child to each class if needed? 4. And if yes, is there another parent who will cover your required aiding positions since you will be tending to your child?
